What Civilution Has to Offer
In addition to the traditional OpenACS platform (with discussion
forums, shared calendars, group news and announcements), we have
developed a number of new components for our customers. Call us for
source code or a demonstration.
Civ-Forms
Civ-Forms lets you create and manage a structured and searchable
library of virtual documents, each with configurable fields for dates,
words, names, photos and attached files.
For instance, you would start an image database by configuring a new
"photo" form with fields for an attached picture file (file), its
description (text), the photographer's name (text), and the day it was
taken (date).
I library of "employee" forms could each have a name (text), a job
title (text), a resume (file), birthday and start dates (date), and
links to other form types like "contracts," "performance reviews," and
"awards."
Civ-Form's special strength is that it not only lets you add or remove
fields on a virtual form on the fly, but it also reflects those
changes on filled-forms already in the library.
You can also restrict the reading and writing of certain forms to
particular groups of users.
Civ-Ratings
With Civ-Ratings, you can solicit user feedback for any type of
information on your site, be they static web pages, Civ-Forms, users,
announcements, etc. This user feedback can be collected on any number
of axes (like "Originality", "Quality", and "Relevance"). You can use
these ratings to direct your users to your best content. You will
learn what they prefer.
Civ-Uploads
A serious problem currently exists on the web: How do you let users
upload large files to your site, over a web interface that was never
intended to handle files bigger than a megabyte?
Civ-Uploads lets your users upload multi-gigabyte files without
a problem. This enables you to upload files in bulk. Some current
bulk-uploaded examples are digital documents and high-resolution
digital pictures.
Civ-Credit
Your website can collect credit card payments via the third-party
PayPal service. This quick and simple system is remarkably
inexpensive to implement, and is perfect for selling "soft goods" like
downloads and membership dues.
Civ-PageEdit
Civ-PageEdit lets you create and edit the static HTML files on your
website through an all-web interface. It also lets you modify the
presentation of the dynamic, database-backed pages as well.
Partner Sites
Your site can have a different look and feel for different groups of
users. For example, Green Media
Toolshed has partnered with American Rivers to create a
customized and co-branded 'portal' to its data that is specifically
tailored to their members. Users of these portals can have access to
any subset of data defined by the site administrators, or can have
their own data entirely.
Group Scoping
If you plan to have several different groups of users on your site,
then you may want group scoping. This lets each group have a
different set of announcements, shared calendar, bulletin board, etc.
